Hello Humber Valley families,
On Wednesday, the GTHL released its Return-to-Play Plan for the 2021-22 hockey season. For parents seeking additional details, the GTHL will be hosting info sessions on Tuesday, May 25th at 5:00pm, and Thursday, May 27th at 12:00pm. To join a session, use the links below. These will also be posted to our Facebook page for easy access.
I would like to provide some additional context on what the GTHL’s plan means for Humber Valley.
House League Registration
Minor hockey associations in Toronto will be allowed to open registration for the 2021-22 season on June 14th. Humber Valley is working to open our registration system on that date. Due to variables beyond our control, we are currently unable to forecast the costs associated with hosting the 2021-22 season and cannot determine our season rates at this time. While we do not expect a significant increase in registration fees (view 2020-21 season fees here), we require the following information before we can set our rates:
- Cost of ice has not yet been released by the City of Toronto. Ice rentals represent approximately 70% of our annual costs.
- Number of players to be allowed on the ice at any one time has not yet been announced. We cannot determine the amount of ice we need until we know how many players can be on the ice.
For these reasons, we have decided to open our registration on a risk-free basis. This means that no firm commitment or payment will be required until our final fees are announced. Registering your child in our house league program guarantees that they have a spot when the season starts and allows us to begin forecasting our ice and other requirements.
The Humber Valley house league season is scheduled to start in late September or early October. Should the season be delayed, fees will be prorated.
Competitive Development & Select Programs
For house league players who wish to tryout for a CDP (U9 and below) or a Select team (U10 and older), tryouts will begin as early as the first week of October. We will communicate dates to all registered house league families as soon as they are available.
GTHL Sharks A & AA Prep Sessions, Tryouts & Registration
AA tryouts are scheduled to begin September 20th while A level tryouts will begin one week later on September 27th. Player registration for Sharks A & AA teams occurs directly through the GTHL. Communication regarding this registration will come from the coaching staff of each team.
The GTHL is planning to host “prep sessions” for U10 and U11 players who would like to get some ice time ahead of the tryout period. Pre-registration for these sessions will be required. We will provide updates on the dates and times as soon as they are available.
Please note that all dates announced above remain flexible, and are contingent on a safe public health situation.
Although uncertainty remains, I am cautiously optimistic that Humber Valley players will finally get back on the ice this fall. Like most of you, I am excited for that day. In the meantime, I want to wish all players a safe and enjoyable end to the school year.
Sincerely,
Steve Allmen
President, Humber Valley Hockey Association
