Welcome to the 2025-26 Hockey Season!
Message from Ross Bitove, HVHA President

I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful summer! As we kick off another exciting season, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to both our returning families and those joining Humber Valley for the first time.

The season is already underway for our competitive teams, who are back on the ice preparing for Early Bird Tournaments in the weeks ahead. But the excitement is just beginning for our House League divisions, with the start of their seasons right around the corner. We know everyone is eager to receive team assignments and schedules, and we’ll be addressing timing for each division in this update.

We’re looking forward to another fantastic year filled with skill development, teamwork, and memorable moments on the ice!

House League Registration Reminder

We’re excited to kick off another House League season with the puck set to drop in less than a month! Our volunteers are busy building teams and finalizing schedules. Limited space remains in all age categories, so if you haven’t registered yet, now is the time.

Junior House League – U5 to U9

Our Junior House League season kicks off on Saturday, October 4 at Long Branch Arena! Times will vary by age group, with the youngest players hitting the ice first. Full schedules and team assignments will be shared via TeamSnap about a week before the start date. We’re also excited to have Stride Hockey returning to run the program.

In addition, we’ll be hosting optional prep skates on September 27th to help players feel ready for opening day. We’ll share additional details in the coming weeks.

Extra Sunday gameplay at CWENCH Centre (formerly Canlan Etobicoke) will run on a rotation, with details posted in TeamSnap once the season begins.

We are still looking for coaches and on-ice volunteers to support our young players. If you’re interested, please contact Arja Pennanen at apennanen@humbervalleyhockey.com.

Toronto West Hockey League (TWHL) Update

Last season marked the inaugural year of the TWHL and it was a huge success. We’re excited to be kicking off Season 2 with even more momentum. Teams and schedules will be finalized in the coming weeks, with games set to begin in early October.

Questions related to the TWHL program may be directed to Jeff Boyes at jboyes@humbervalleyhockey.com.

Competitive Development Program (CDP) Update

At Humber Valley, players in U6 to U9 (born 2020–2017) can choose between two great options:

  • House League – one skate each week with occasional games. Fun, community-focused, and lower commitment.
  • Competitive Development Program (CDP) – three practices each week, plus weekly games and tournaments. Ideal for players ready for more ice time and a competitive team environment.

U9 teams were selected in the Spring and it is now time for U7 teams to be selected. If your player, born 2019 or 2020, is interested in CDP, evaluation skates start September 13. We also offer optional prep skates on September 6 & 7 to help kids feel more confident going in.

  • U7 Prep Skate Sign-Up
  • U7 Tier 1 Evaluation Sign-Up (mandatory for CDP)
  • U7 Tier 2/3 Evaluation Sign-Up (mandatory for CDP)

Please note: players must be registered in House League to attend CDP prep and evaluations. Coaches select Tier 1 first, then Tier 2/3. If a player isn’t placed on a CDP team, they’re automatically assigned to a House League team.

Volunteers Needed
CDP wouldn’t run without our amazing parent volunteers. We’re recruiting Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Trainers, and Managers. Please contact Emily Chiang at echiang@humbervalleyhockey.com if you’re interested.

Select Division Update

Humber Valley’s Select Division is gearing up for another championship season! Once again, our Select teams will compete in the Mississauga Hockey League, offering convenient arena locations and scheduling.

  • League Play Starts: October 4th
  • Player & Goalie Spots Available: Check out openings here: Select Players Wanted
  • Call-Ups: Interested in being a “call-up” to a Select team? Please reach out directly to the coach in your age group: Select Team Contacts

Competitive A & AA Update

This season, Humber Valley will proudly field 19 teams in the A and AA divisions from U10 to U18. Our teams will soon be competing in early bird tournaments ahead of the regular season, which begins in mid-October.

We’re still looking to add a few players to our rosters.

CanSkate for Hockey

We’re excited to partner once again with Silver Blades Skating Club to offer CanSkate for Hockey. With this partnership, the $60 membership fee is waived for any HV player who joins the CanSkate for Hockey program. Please note: the membership fee will apply to any other Silver Blades program.

  • Location: Centennial Arena
  • Time: Wednesdays, 5:10–6:00pm
  • Fall Session: Sept 10 – Dec 31 (20 spots available)
  • Winter Session: Jan 7 – Apr 1 (registration TBD)

To register for the fall session, please contact Jo Ann MacMillan at info@silverblades.ca.

Welcome Kylie White-Pavic

We’re thrilled to welcome Kylie White-Pavic, who is joining Humber Valley to lead Sponsorship. If you’re interested in sponsorship opportunities or would like to learn more, reach out to Kylie at kwhite@humbervalleyhockey.com.

We also want to thank Devon Friedman for her time and dedication to Humber Valley as she steps back from the role.

NTC Drill of the Month

This month’s featured drill from our partner NTC Hockey is designed to help players sharpen their skills off the ice. These quick, targeted exercises are a great way to complement your on-ice training, build confidence, and stay game-ready. Watch the video and give it a try at home or during your next dryland session!

Closing Message from Ross

As we launch into another exciting season, I want to extend a personal thank you to all of our Humber Valley families for their continued support and commitment to our association. Together, we’re building a community where our players can thrive both on and off the ice. I’m looking forward to a memorable 2025-26 season filled with growth, teamwork, and plenty of great hockey moments. Let’s make this year our best yet!
